RIFT Leveling and Builds Section – Xerxes RIFT Guide review

Xerxes

Got round to completing my Xerxes RIFT Guide review sooner than I thought.

Rift leveling guides

The first thing you’ll see in their leveling sections:

Xerxes Rift Guide

So 6 sections in the leveling part of the xerxes guide. And yeah they’ll be updating their stuff soon. I’m pretty sure they’d already have their level 29 – 50 guides released by the time you read this.  Let’s take a closer look at what’s inside these PDFs.

A very important word of advice:

Xerxes have made all these rift level guides as purely questing guides. These leveling guides won’t go into any other exp opportunities such as rifts or dungeons (the beginner’s crash course section does, but dungeons and rifts aren’t integrated with the questing leveling system). I suggest you go and do those whenever the opportunity arises. If you don’t, you’ll find yourself falling behind the optimal level for the quest. Xerxes actually mention this in the beginning of their guide (But I missed that part XD Just thought I’d give you guys a heads up anyways).

Either way, it’s really not that big of a deal. Just go and do those Rifts and Dungeons whenever you can and you won’t find the need to grind for your levels (I haven’t so far).

The rift leveling guide’s layout is as follows:

  • You’re given a map (found in the High Quality Maps section)
  • The map will have letters assigned to individual areas.
  • And from here on out, It’s basically ‘Go to this NPC. Take this quest. Do it like this. Come back here. Do this one etc etc’

I found the layout for the leveling guides really simple. They’re not the most attractive guides, but they’re definitely the most easy to follow. Kudos to xerxes for that. (I hate FAQs/Walkthroughs that beat around the bush, and xerxes guides are far from it). And they’ve also grouped quests together by area, reducing unnecessary travelling times. Kudos to xerxes again.

Another cool little feature is that they have names colour coded. Monster names are highlighted in red, items in green, locations in light blue etc. I found this kinda helpful (Don’t laugh at me. I know I’m not the only who’s confused an item name with an NPC)

Oh and they also have screenshots for what the NPCs / monsters look like:

Xerxes Rift

Other than that there’s not much else to say about these rift leveling guides. Simple and straight to the point is what they are. I’m guessing your question now would be ‘So is this the ultimate rift leveling guide?’

My answer: No it’s not the ultimate leveling guide. But it’s the best one out there right now. It’s not just any old rift grinding guide. It’s very easy to follow user. And all you need to do is take part in some rifts and dungeons if you’re finding a quest (that the xerxes guides are describing) difficult and you’ll be more than fine. I give the leveling section a solid 4.2/5 on the almighty ‘Luke Scale’

That’s the xerxes leveling guides section done. Now onto builds. I’ll be going over what the rift warrior guide has to offer. (Because warriors > mages + clerics + rogues)

Warrior Builds Guide

The contents page for warrior rift guide:

Xerxes Rift Mastery Guide

The builds guides have 1 difference compared to the leveling guides, that’s detail detail and more detail. The xerxes level guides were simple and easy to follow (after all there wasn’t much else you could write about questing). Here, right from the off you start learning things like which souls are good against what. I’m not going to tell you exactly what they’re saying (copyright and stuff) but you’ll see from their contents page xerxes have gone all out in this section of their rift guides. Actually here’s a little sneak peak:

  • Each endurance point will increase the warrior’s HP by 9.
  • A DPS warrior is better off looking for gear with strength and added critical hit rating rather than trying to gather all the dexterity he can get.
  • For a tank, max out strength too (along with other stats). Why? Because strength increases block. ‘Huh?’ Yup. Strength increases block.

By now you should have a rough idea of what to expect from their Builds guides. The above little nuggets of wisdom I just shared were only from page 5, and there’s 48 pages of goodness just waiting to be read. I’ve looked over the build guides for the other 3 classes and they too have really cool stuff in there.

I could go on for days about what the xerxes guides have to offer, but I’m going to stop here. An awesome rift guide put together with alot of thought.

Just to clear up any doubts, the Xerxes Guide is totally legit. No illegal bots or anything of the sort.

PRICE: $37 only (Website says it will go up to 57$ soon)

So, just another RIFT grinding guide? I think not

As I mentioned in my previous post, here’s my more in depth review at what this rift guide has to offer.

The way I see it, out of the 4 sections in the guide, there are 2 extras (The Beginner Crash Course and High Quality Maps) and 2 very meaty sections (rift build guides and rift leveling guides). I’ll get the 2 extras done today.

The Beginner Crash Course

The first PDF: rift beginners guide

28 pages long. Starts off with the character creation guide and explains what to expect from each of the 4 servers available. It then goes onto the options available for choosing your faction and race (obvious stuff). It also has a neat little table explaining each race’s Race Special skill. Next is the Calling (Class) selection. The guide basically explains each class briefly and also points out which of the classes are good for PvP. Honestly I could go on all day about what this guide has got, but it goes over quite abit. You’re much better off reading this than the official rift website, this has loads of extra tips for each section.

Xerxes Guide

Xerxes rift guide goes over all of the above (obviously). Like I said, I recommend reading this rather than what the official site has. This way it’s all presented in a nice chronological order.

The second PDF: UI Guide

A 27 page guide. Goes over your User Interface, covering everything from minimap to basic interactions, and rift meters to how to customise your UI and lots of other things. Yeah rift let’s you easily customize your UI unlike WoW where you had to download extra add-ons. Well worth a read (Though I’ve only skimmed through it. I prefer to pick up these things myself and experience the learning curve rift has to offer)

The third PDF: rifting guide

This one’s 16 pages long but has some pretty good stuff in here. Explains what rifts are, what to look out for when a rift appears, what to do when there’s an active rift or unstable rift and a ton more. Again I haven’t really read this thoroughly. I was only after my rift level guide and Warrior builds. Like I said, I rather learn all of the delicacies on my own. And it’s the level and build guide I parted with my money for XD

Xerxes Rift Guide – High Quality Maps

Just like the name suggests, you can download some high quality maps of the rift world. Currently there are 6 maps available:

  • Freemarch
  • SilverWood
  • Terminus
  • Mathiosa
  • StoneField
  • GloamWood

We should expect more maps soon. (They added the GloamWood map on the 4th of march, just a few days ago)

Just thought I’d point out that the maps are in JPEG format and approximately 4 MB big! In my opinion thats a pretty damn big file size for a JPEG. Just goes to show what they mean by high quality.

If you’re like me and just want pure hard facts about what to do to level up as fast as possible, you’ll be pleased to know that the rift leveling guide delivers well. In my next post I’ll post a review on the rift leveling section and talk some more about what xerxes are offering in their Builds Guides. I’ll try and take some more screenshots too.

Until then, happy rifting.

Xerxes RIFT Guide – my first impressions

I thought I’d do a Xerxes RIFT Guide review as I didn’t see any other good ones out there. I started playing rift recently and wanted to get ahead of my friends (a bunch of us decided to start playing rift together) and catch up to those players who started rift before me. I came across a leveling guide by xerxes and wanted to check it out.

The guide’s pretty well put together. You basically get access to the member’s area once you buy their product. They’ve divided the whole guide into 4 sections; beginner’s crash course, rift leveling guides, rift builds guides and high quality maps.

The Beginner’s Crash Course is a collection of 3 PDFs. The first is just a beginner’s guide, which explains abit about general game features such as callings (just a fancy name for classes) and what to expect when progressing through the class system. The other 2 PDFs are on the UI (User Interface) and a guide on rifting. I mean most of this can be found on the actual website but xerxes have added a few extra hints and tips.

The rift build guides section is amazing. They go into every kind of build you can think of. I’ve only gone through the warrior builds guide (That’s the class I’ve picked. I always pick swordsman/warrior in MMORPGs), and they have tons to offer. They go over the best leveling builds, tanking builds, support builds, best PvP builds and a few others. It looks like this is one of the areas they’ve put alot of effort behind.

The High Quality Maps section is self-explanatory. You’re able to download 6 high quality maps.

Yup the Xerxes RIFT Guide team are constantly updating their content. The last time they updated their guide was just 4 days ago. I’ll keep you guys updated and go into detail of each section in the next few days.
